With over 30 pubs and restaurants in the centre alone, Winchester is spoilt for choice, however the Hampshire Chronicle has put together a list of the top five rated restaurants for roast dinners in Winchester, rated by Google reviews.
The Black Rat
Based on Chesil Street, The Black Rat is a restaurant made for fine Modern British dining. Careful to source their produce and staff, the restaurant scored an impressive 4.7 on Google reviews, with one impressed customer writing: "Service and food were impeccable, staff really went the extra mile!"
The restaurant was placed in the top 50 romantic places to dine in the UK and more recently, became Hampshire's representative in The Top 100 Restaurants of the year.
The seasonal menu may change from day to day due to the restaurant striving to use the 'freshest' ingredients from local suppliers, with their own forager and grow vegetables and herbs in their allotment close to the restaurant.
Prices are not shown due to the seasonal menu and multiple suppliers, however the restaurant advise a guideline of £40-£50 per person.
Closed Monday's and Tuesday's, The Black Rat is open Wednesday 6pm - 9pm, Thursday and Friday 7pm - 9.15pm and Saturday and Sunday 12pm - 2.15pm then again from 7pm - 9.15pm.

The Chesil Rectory
With a score of 4.7/5 on Google reviews, the Chesil Rectory prides themselves on great quality food and exceptional service.
The independent restaurant located on Chesil Street continues to impress their customers with their food and dining experience, with one customer writing: "I opted for the chicken main and it was the best chicken I've ever eaten!"
Another wrote: "Absolutely amazing experience! Lovely polite staff, delicious food. We had Sunday roast and we can say we have never had better roast then here."
The restaurant is closed Monday's and Tuesday's and open throughout the rest of the week, with an open time of 12pm.
A Sunday three course meal will cost £29.95, while a two course will cost £24.94, consisting of roasted chicken, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese, greens and roast carrots.
St. James Tavern
Rated 4.6/5 on Google reviews, the SJT, located on Romsey Road, made top marks for the 'excellent' food, drink and service.
One customer wrote: "Went to St James' with colleagues for dinner. Excellent service, delicious food, nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again and highly recommend!"
Starting at £15.95, Sunday roast dinner's are served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal veg and gravy, and a choice of beef, chicken, pork, a trio of meats or a nutroast.
Closed Monday's, SJT are open from 12pm Tuesday to Sunday.

The Wykeham Arms
With a score of 4.4/5, The Wykeham Arms pub on Kingsgate Street scored top marks by their customers, with one happy reviewer writing: "This is a nice place so of course I was expecting a good lunch but what I had was really outstanding. Sunday roast cooked to perfection; beautiful beef and wonderful range of perfectly cooked vegetables."
Open from 12pm - 9pm every day, this family friendly pub has a menu designed to suit all, from their duck fat roasted potatoes to their pigs in blankets, stuffing and truffled cauliflower cheese.
Prices start from £15 and go up to £32, with an extensive drinks menu of wine, ale and spirits.

The Golden Lion
Located on Alresford Road, this pub scored 4.5/5 on Google reviews for their food, services and their Sunday roasts, with one reviewer writing: "A wonderful place to eat with friendly efficient staff and delicious food especially the Sunday roasts."
Open every day from 11am, The Golden Lion is a family friendly pub who are praised for their Sunday food. All dinners start with the option of chicken, lamb, beef and pork, which come with seasonable vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
Prices start from £13.95 for Sunday roasts and go up to £17.50.
Another reviewer wrote: "Excellent Sunday roast beef today very attentive staff lovely pub relaxed and friendly will definitely be coming again highly recommend."
