IN a recent Facebook post, we asked our readers for their say on the best fish and chip shop on the Isle of Wight.
With 382 million meals from fish and chip shops eaten every year across the nation, with 'Chips' and 'Fish & Chips' taking the two top spots as the countries most popular British dishes, next to roasts, English breakfasts and bangers and mash, it's clear the UK's staple takeaway is here to stay.
There is always a fish and chip shop close by, with around 20 plotted on the Isle of Wight alone. But with so many to choose from, which are the Isle of Wight's favourite fish and chip shops?
Below are five top fish and chip shops on the Isle of Wight, rated by you:
Ozze's Plaice
Based in Newport's Royal Exchange, Ozze's Plaice scored a 4.7/5 on Google reviews, with one happy customer commenting: "Best chip shop on the island, big portions of chips, great prices."
With a top-notch five-star food hygiene rating, Ozze's has an extensive menu of cod, haddock, scampi, pies, burgers, garlic mushrooms, onion rings and much more.
Ozze's opening times are 4pm - 8pm Monday to Sunday.
Another reviewer wrote: "Fantastic service and staff, food is always freshly cooked and tasty."
Tony's Fish and Chip Shop
Given a rating of 4.5/5, Tony's Fish and Chip Shop is a clear favourite for the Isle of Wight. On the menu is a wide range from: cod, haddock, scampi, pies, sausages, burgers, fritters and sides.
Located on John Street, Ryde, the chippy offer dine in and takeaway option, with a seating area also outside.
Opening times are 11.30am - 8.30pm and closed on Sunday's.
One customer wrote: "Great fish and chips with friendly staff, eat in or take away options."
Avenue Road Chippy
Open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Avenue Road Chippy, located in Sandown, scored a 4.4/5 on Google reviews, with one customer writing: "Good prices and large portions and very yummy."
With vegetarian options, the chippy also serve fishcakes, cod, haddock, fish fingers, sausages, pies, burgers and buttys, as well as sides, including popcorn chicken, gravy and mushy peas.
Their opening times are: 5.15pm to 8.00pm Thursdays and Fridays and 5.00pm - 8.00pm on Saturdays.
Another customer wrote: "Friendly staff and First class service all round."
Brothers Of Brading
Given a score of 3.9 on Google reviews, High Street chippy, Brothers Of Brading is praised for its friendly approach and service, with one customer writing: "Staff were friendly and approachable but all were outshined by the halloumi."
Closed Sundays and Mondays, Brothers Of Brading are open 5pm to 7.30pm Tuesday and Thursday and 12pm - 8.30pm Thursday to Saturday, with a short closing time between 2pm and 5pm.
Another customer wrote: "Good food great service definitely recommend."
Golden Sands
With a Google review rating of 4.7, Golden Sands on Esplanade, Ventnor, show their popularity through their food, with one customer writing: "The cod and chips were cooked to order, and were absolutely delicious."
Open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Sunday, Golden Sands serve an extensive menu of fishcakes, crab cakes, cod, sausages, burgers, veggie burgers and sides, from gravy to baked beans.
Another reviewer wrote: "A wonderful place for fantastic food and service with a beaming smile!"
