Chef patron Gordon Stott has been awarded and highlighted for his commitment to local produce of the highest quality that is used to build his menus. Serving fish, meat and vegetables from Hampshire of pub classics as well as a 6 course tasting menu.
Based in Preston Candover, Basingstoke, the Purefoy Arms is a village pub that was taken over by Gordon just two years ago.
"When this came up for lease, I jumped to the occasion, and it's been three years since then," said Mr Stott.
"What I try and do, as I say, is take dishes that may not necessarily sound right, like the ox cheek donut we have at the minute, or the dessert called 'don't cry over spilt milk', which was like a cookie based dish with a milk foam, milk sorbet.
"The kind of fun aspect inspired me, helped me, to come up with dishes like that.
"I think we do good food here. I think it's a team, from the front of house to chefs and the porters, we provide good food here."
Gordon has had an illustrious career so far, having won a series of acclaimed awards over his career including Winner of the 2017 national ‘Pub Chef of the Year’ at the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs Awards and an Acorn award also in 2017. He is well known in the area having risen to head chef at local pub The Sun at the age of just 20, his loyal Hampshire following have gladly followed him to this new venture. The Purefoy represents all that Gordon has achieved and they have much planned for the future.
The Purefoy Arms is in the running to be announced as overall Pub of the Year, this takes place 19th October.
