A PRIMARY school will stayed closed until at least next Tuesday after a small number of Covid cases were reported.
Micheldever Primary School shut on Tuesday this week, with a number of families isolating after positive cases were registered.
The school has now confirmed that it is not expected to reopen until March 23.
Acting headteacher Tom Johnston said: "A small number of pupils and staff have tested positive for Covid but because of the number of children and adults that need to self-isolate, the school is currently expected to remain closed until at least 23rd March, with pupils continuing their classes online until they can safely return to the classroom."
Currently primary school children are not regularly asymptomatically tested due to low levels of transmission between younger aged children. When asked whether he thinks pupils should be tested, Mr Johnston said: "Like other schools, we are following the national guidance which states that primary school pupils are not required to take part in regular asymptomatic testing at this time."
Following the closure a parish update read: "In the last few days there have been a number of positive cases reported at Micheldever Primary School requiring the school to temporarily close. Local businesses should be especially vigilant for any chain of infections that could relate to the school or other cases locally."
