A BOMB squad has recovered a grenade from Winchester city centre.
The explosive was seen in the River Itchen, off Bridge Street, near the Bishop on the Bridge pub, by a member of the public.
Police were called and set up a cordon for safety. A bomb disposal team from Aldershot then disposed of the grenade.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 11.14am today to the City Bridge in Winchester after a member of the public located what is believed to be a grenade in the water.
"Attending officers set up a cordon for safety. EOD attended and took the grenade to detonate and dispose of it safely."
