A WINCHESTER dad has scooped a brand-new Audi S4 worth more than £45,000.
Al Costello, 49, was stunned when BOTB presenter Christian Williams turned up to tell him about the new motor – as well as the £10,000 cash that came with it.
He was on a short holiday break with his family in Northumberland when he was told he was the midweek car competition winner.
Mr Costello said: “I knew who he was as soon as I saw him. What a way to end the holiday – and to mark the end of a very strange few months."
During lockdown, the technical author has been working from home where he lives with his wife Abi, a teacher, and their 18-month old son Max.
“It’s been quite a handful to juggle childcare and work between the two of us," he added.
Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, BOTB has given away more than £34m worth of prizes, including supercars, cash and holidays.
“My older son Ben and I both play, we always talk about the lucky people that win, and now I can’t believe that’s me.
"The £10,000 cash is just the icing on the cake really. We want to move house next year so the money will be a huge help for us with that. Thank you BOTB.”
Christian, who surprises winners all over the world every week, was thrilled to give Al the news.
He said: "I felt a bit guilty turning up to Al’s family holiday uninvited but as soon as I saw his face I knew we were welcome – he knew exactly what was happening the moment he opened the door."
Mr Costello's reaction can be seen on BOTB's website.
