A WINCHESTER village school has been labelled as the county’s best primary school.
John Keble CofE Primary in Hursley has been named the highest ranking Hampshire primary school in an annual report by The Sunday Times.
The report ranks schools based upon their performance in the 2017 statutory assessments at the end of Year 6, including tests taken in reading, grammar and maths.
Chairman of governors, Catherine Worsfold, said: “It is wonderful to see how the hard work of our teachers, parents and children has been recognised in this list of the top 250 state primary schools in England.”
The school attributes the success to having been focused on developing good learning behaviours, positive attitudes to learning and having high expectations in outcomes.
Headteacher Marcus Roe said: “Our children work very hard and are lucky to have such amazing teachers to help them learn, grow and be successful in not only tests but as young people.”
Paul O’Brien, who is also head of school, taught the 2017 class.
He said: “I am immensely proud of the children for both their academic achievement and their ‘can do’ mentality.
“Not only did they perform fantastically well, but they showed themselves to be wonderfully empathetic and caring individuals, too.
“Their charity work, and attitude towards others was truly inspirational.”
