HORSE competitions to dog displays and plenty of stalls with a variety of food and drink; Romsey Show returns this weekend.

One of the largest one-day shows in the south, The Romsey Show will be holding its 176th event on the historic Broadlands Estate.

This year, the show will acknowledge the end of the First World War with an aircraft display, and show off some of the finest prize cattle from around the area.

Beginning at 8am and running until 6pm, the Bremont Great War Display Team will fly over the show to mark 100 years of the Great War.

In the main ring, the NBR 12 Army Remount Depot Display Team will also tell the story of how horses and mules were obtained and trained during World War One.

Romsey was one of the largest and most vital remount deports in the UK.

MP Caroline Nokes said: “Romsey Show is always a highlight in the calendar for me and I look forward to meeting lots of constituents at what promises to be another great show. Fingers crossed the unseasonal weather continues.”

Other attractions taking place include The Stunt Riders, the Heavy Horse Turnout and a packed procession of vintage machinery, classic cars and traction engines.

The show itself is run by charity The Romsey Agricultural and Horse Show Society, which promoted agriculture and equine activities, showcasing horse, donkey, sheep and cattle classes.

Those will run throughout the day as visitors can learn more about the livestock breeds, with the Grand Parade at 3pm. Musical entertainment will also feature in the form of Busk Stops, following their success at the Beggars Fair, and visitors are also welcome to bring their own instrument to the Performance Area and Food Zone. This year, the show is also running a photography competition, encouraging visitors to upload their favourite moment of the show to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, including #myromseyshow. Adult tickets are priced at £14 when purchased beforehand, with senior tickets priced at £12. To purchase tickets, visit romseyshow.ticketsrv.co.uk. Entry can also be purchased on the gate at £17 for adults.
