Winchester-based Lewis Hopkins made a real impression during Rounds 7 and 8 of the Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge, held at a wet and windy Castle Combe circuit recently.
Eighteen-year-old Hopkins, currently taking A-level exams at Peter Symonds College, fought his way up from 20th on the grid to finish 8th out of 39 drivers in the first race. He also set a new lap record in the process.
During the second race, he was lying 4th in the early stages, before being sent into a spin by Graham Johnson. Re-emerging in 24th place, he managed to fight his way back to 15th at the chequered flag.
Hopkins' exploits earned him the coveted Driver of the Meeting Award, and improved his overall championship position to 15th.
