A twelve-hour charity basketball marathon is being staged at Kings School Sports Hall this coming Saturday (July 7) from 8am.
The Winchester Basketball League (WBL) committee organised the event to raise money for the Caroll Youth Centre after Martin Jacobs, landlord of the Green Man pub who sponsor a team in the WBL, presented a moving tribute to Michelle Alexander, "hugely missed" former deputy leader of the Caroll Youth Centre and the pub's ladies' darts team captain, who tragically passed away a few months ago.
The Green Man pub has been extremely active in raising money of this event and the centre and Kings School have been very generous in giving us the court free of charge.
The game will be played between two teams of local male and female players including representatives from the Women's Solent League Champions - Winchester Diamonds and the WBL's Giants, Eagles, Wizards and Trailblazers.
Spectators are welcome to pop in and offer massages or just support the players; there will be donation buckets court side. If you feel you want to support the event in any way please contact the organiser on richstyants@ hotmail.com.
