THE DRIVER of a 4x4 vehicle escaped injury after overturning her vehicle in a Winchester street on Wednesday.
The Toyota RDV4 was travelling along St Swithun Street, away from the Cathedral, when the incident happened, shortly before 1pm. It is unclear how it came to overturn but it is thought the driver may have hit the kerb prior to the accident.
The road was closed for more than an hour while fire crews recovered the vehicle and cleared the road. They were helped by staff from Winchester Cathedral, who used a forklift truck to move the stricken 4x4.
Crew Commander Paul Derrick, from Winchester fire station, said: "All we know is that there was a vehicle travelling from the cathedral that struck the kerb or another car, and put the car on its roof.
"The woman was released by members of the public prior to the fire service arriving. We're just assisting the police in clearing the highway."
