A DONKEY foal savaged by a dog at Bramshaw is still battling for life.

The foal was five days old when she was attacked and left with horrific neck injuries. Owner, Ray Bennett discovered the animal on Tuesday morning last week after searching for her pregnant mother Nanny.

Since the discovery at Sturtmoor Common, the foal has been cared for by Ray's ex-wife Sheena Rees who helped in the search.

Giving the latest update on the foal's condition, Sheena's husband John, said: "She is holding her own and is being so good while enduring Sheena's tireless attention. Her wounds are terrible but we do not think we are putting her through too much in trying to save her. Still early days - can say little more at this stage."

When found the foal was crawling with thousands of maggots around her neck.
