Upham Football Club players past and present recently gathered in glorious sunshine at Ray's Farm recreation ground, Upham to pay a fitting tribute to Upham favourite Barry Baz' Allwood who tragically collapsed and died in February following Upham's Hampshire League Trophyman Cup game versus Sporting BTC.
Barry was a great servant to the club both as a player and as a character behind the scenes in his post-playing days and the massive turnout for this game was testament to his popularity and standing within the Club.
The match was kicked off by Barry's wife, Jane, and son Wes, under the careful eye of referee Stuart Card who had known Barry as a player and was only too pleased to officiate on the day.
The game was played in the true spirit of the day with rolling substitutions' so that everyone could participate, and in the end, the final score became secondary to the taking part' in this memorable occasion.
Thanks go to Tom Hastings for organising the event and to Barry's brother-in-law and sister, Arthur and Jenny Gregory who were instrumental in fund raising events on the day that returned in excess of £1200. The proceeds will be shared between the provision of a bench seat at the recreation ground in memory of Barry and Upham FC funds to support the superb newly-erected Tommy Steele Pavilion' at Upham recreation ground.
