Hedge End teenager Stuart Ransley (pictured right), who plays for Havant in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League, is to join the MCC Young Cricketers staff at Lord's once he finishes his A-level examinations at Peter Symonds College.
Ransley, 18, impressed MCC Head Coach Clive Radley in two trial matches for the YCs last season - scoring a half-century against Kent 2nd XI - and was invited on the pre-season tour to the West Indies, playing matches in Nevis and St Kitts.
"I did pretty well in the Caribbean, making a few 20s and 30s, but my big chance will come when I go full-time to Lord's next week," said the batsman/off-spinner.
Ransley, who has played regularly for Hampshire's age group teams since he was 11 years old, has developed into one of the most promising young cricketers in the Premier League in recent seasons.
He bats in Havant's top four and is an economical off-spin bowler.
Ransley can't wait to start life at Lord's.
"It's a great opportunity that few young players get and I intend to make the most of it," he said.
"We play a host of county 2nd XIs on top grounds, plus the fact there's training and nets every day.
"On top of that, there's a host of big games at Lord's, when we operate the covers and generally sample the atmosphere associated with Test Matches and ODIs."
Ransley plans to put a prospective university place on hold for the next 18 months by spending parts of a gap year playing Grade cricket in Western Australia this winter.
