Peter Symonds athletes have won bronze - third place overall - in the Hampshire Athletics competition this season with their successes in both track and field events.
In the first competitive event of the summer at Basingstoke, Anna Newton was in good form coming first in both her long jump and high jump events.
On the track the Symonds squad performed well achieving 2nd place in both the men's and women's 4 x 100m relays. Sean Forster, Susan Roberts and Louise Corcoran continued the trend in the 800m, 200m and 400m races respectively. Susan and Katie Seal were placed second in their 100m heats. Jack Bolton was content with his performances in the javelin and high jump where he was beaten into second place by a fellow decathlete.
The next outing to Southampton saw good results again with wins from: Gareth Price in the 100m, Sarah Holliday and Phillip Berntsen (team mates) both with victories in the 800m, Jack Bolton in the javelin, Georgina Barton joint 1st in the 1500m and Charlotte West victorious with the shot.
"We've had a great season," says coach, Cherrelle Elvin. "The season is short but intense, restricted by academic exams, but the students have gained some good times and positions in these competitions.
We have many able athletes at the college, many of whom also compete in competitions outside of the college. They train hard to achieve their results. We wish them all well for the future, especially our leavers, and we'll be watching out for news of their successes further afield in the months and years to come."
The team over the two events included: Susan Roberts, Katie Seal, Laura Procter, Emily Procter, Charlotte Moll, Georgina Barton, Georgina Neame, Anna Newton, Sarah Holliday, Charlotte West, Louise Corcoran. Justin Holmes, Richard Mills, Matt Duckworth, Sean Forster, Jack Bolton, Gareth Price, Matt Plows, Martin Zownir, Simon Moxon, Matt Harris, Phillip Berntsen, Tom McCullen.
