A SHOP assistant was hit over the head with a brick and a lead pipe in Sparsholt yesterday during a vicious attempted robbery.
The teenage assailant walked into the Well House Store at around 11am and demanded money from the woman cashier.
He then hit her over the head with a brick and again with a lead pipe, before fleeing, empty-handed, across a field, heading towards Stockbridge Road.
The assistant was taken to hospital with cuts to her head, but her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Dt Sgt Emma Barrow, from Winchester CID, said: "The victim has been left very distressed by this incident and we would urge anyone with any information to come forward."
The attacker is described as black, aged 16 to 18, of slight build, around 5ft to 5ft 5in. He was wearing a blue hoodie.
Anyone who recognises the description, was in the area at the time or who may have given him a lift, is urged to contact Winchester CID on 0845 0454545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
