King's School played host to St Swithun's in the Hampshire Final of the Aberdare Cup Competition and with both schools fielding players with LTA ratings it looked to be a close contest.
The girls did not disappoint in a match which proved to be tense throughout. The score was 2-2 after the singles matches with the excellent King's players Hannah Crawford and Hattie Girling winning their matches and Melissa Vernon and Lucy Armstrong from St Swithun's winning theirs.
Melissa and Pippa Sargent then won their doubles match for St Swithun's before King's pairing of Hannah and Hattie levelled the match score at 3-3 after 3 hours play.
The match was decided on a Championship tie break between King's pair Hannah and Hattie and St Swithun's pairing of Lucy and Katie Beeton. St Swithun's took a 6-0 lead before King's came back to within one point at 7-8. St. Swithun's took the next point giving them two match points but King's came back again to within one point. Finally St Swithun's edged over the line to win 10-8 and will now represent Hampshire in the semi-finals of the Regional Rounds against Parkstone Grammar School, Poole.
