Women's football is going from strength to strength at Peter Symonds College.

Since September 2006 the college have fielded 25 students (16 to 19-year-olds) in 28 fixtures in six different competitions.

This is quite an achievement in an era when obesity is at an all time high and the continual questions of how young people are spending their recreation time is ever present in the media.

The squad may not have a national title behind them for this season but they must be commended for their commitment and superb attitude towards the sport.

"The team have competed on Wednesday afternoons and after college in the 11-a-side, 5-a-side and Futsal format of the sport," says Ali Wareham team manager/coach, "and their attitude has been unprecedented. They've never failed to field a team.

"The players have attended training in all weathers, committing up to seven hours every week for the college team, while still managing to successfully complete their academic qualifications. They have been a pleasure to coach and have been willing to learn at all times."

"Despite its enormous growth in the last ten years, women's football still remains a minority sport," continues Ali, who is also a UEFA B Coach, "so one of the most satisfying moments as a PE teacher occurs when a girl, who arrives at the college having never played the sport before, develops a love for it and wants to continue participating when she leaves."

The team and their coach would like to thank local Estate Agents Fox and Sons for their sponsorship this season.
