STUDENTS from the Falkland Islands who attend Peter Symonds College, Winchester, are taking part in the London celebrations this weekend mark the 25th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.
Four of the group pictured Dion Robertson (back left), Liam Stevens (back right), Gillian Cotter (front left) and Laura Street (front right) are attending two events.
Gillian, Laura and Dion (with Nadia Smith and Saul Zuvic) will be going to Lincoln's Inn today (Friday) forthe annual celebration of the end of the war.
Gillian said: "It's a great chance to catch up with old friends and family. My parents will be there."
Dion, who has not been before, is looking forward to hearing stories of what went on.
Liam and Emily Hancox will be representing the College at the Celebration in Horseguards Parade on Sunday. Fifteen thousand people are expected to attend the event, they understand.
Emily said: "There will be a live link with San Carlos and a parade down the Mall, then Liam and I will be going on the stage to give a short speech."
Liam said: "My parents were there during the conflict, and my dad told me how appreciative they were of the support from the UK. I'm currently studying at Peter Symonds with many of the people I grew up with. Like many of my fellow students I wish to return to the islands to put something back into the community. There's no better place to raise a family and live a good life."
Emily said: "There are less than 3000 Falkland Islanders, but we're a tight and friendly community - it's a unique place. It's not as cold or isolated as people imagine. It's beautiful and ruggedly scenic."
Liam added: "If things had turned out differently, we might not be here today. Although we were born after the conflict, we are grateful to all those who gave their lives, and Sunday is a day to show our gratitude and remember them."
