SMILING just days after undergoing life-saving brain surgery in the USA, King's Somborne girl, Meg Jones, is continuing to amaze family and friends with her speedy recovery.
Meg, 21, had a pioneering operation to remove a brain tumour last Wednesday (June 6) and is already out of hospital and back on her feet.
She was in theatre for around eight hours as surgeons at Boston Children's Hospital used high-tech equipment to successfully remove the tumour.
She spent three nights in intensive care after her surgery, as there were no other beds spare and was discharged straight from ICU to her bed and breakfast on Saturday (June 9), where she is now recovering.
Her vision is still affected from the operation and she needs to get plenty of sleep but she has already been for short walks and doctors say she is unlikely to need further therapy.
Friends and family back in the UK, who have been amazed by Meg's speedy recovery, have been keeping track of her progress and leaving messages on her blog.
Jill Mellor, assistant head teacher at The Westgate School where Meg was a pupil, wrote: "Well done for getting through the op. You look amazing considering your ordeal. Everyone at The Westgate continues to wish you well and a speedy recovery."
You can visit Meg's blog, which has received over 5,000 hits, at www.megjones.word ress.com l Brainstrust is holding a charity ball to celebrate Meg's safe return from Boston and her 22nd birthday. The Midsummer Magic Ball will be held at Norton Park Hotel in Sutton Scotney on Saturday, July 28 and tickets are £100. To buy, telephone 0871 2716134.
