YET another highly-successful Landford Village Show has piled up the pounds for the village's hall and primary school.

An estimated 1,500 people turned up at the Recreation Ground for Saturday's event which raised around £4,000.

Show chairman Barry Bennett thanked everyone for making it such a success. He said: "It was five hours of hard work on the day but there was also ten months of planning and we're grateful to all who helped."

It was a show packed with variety. There was a collection of cars brought along my members of the Test Valley Motor Enthusiasts' Club, which featured such high speed models as a Ferrari and a Porsche, plus some more sedate working vehicles, including local garage proprietor Ray Avery's impressive old crane, a vintage lorry owned by local farmer Alec Winter, four vintage tractors and a Somerset hay wagon.

Mr Avery and estate agents and auctioneers Woolley and Wallis were the main show sponsors.

Adding to the fun was a dog show with 40 pets contesting categories for the prettiest bitch, the waggiest tail, the most handsome dog, best condition, the best of the rest and the best six leg (two from the exhibitor and four on the dog).

Phil Oldham, whose family live in the village, put on a display with his Falconhigh team, which thrilled the children with its avian aerobatics.

Horses played their part, too, with Simon and Shirley Young of Landford's Farrier Stud giving a display with their Royal Show display team.

A bumper raffle and a silent auction for a four-ball round of golf at Hamptworth and tickets for the Jools Holland and Lulu concert at Beaulieu were big money-spinners.

Proceeds will go towards refurbishing the village hall and building an extension to the primary school.
