Jimmy Adams opens up on Hampshire cricket.

Another rain-affected game - some might argue that we were helped by losing time against Warwickshire, enabling us to bat out the final day for the draw. However, by the time the stumps were pulled, we had a lead of over 200 and, I think, our bowlers would have fancied their chances of bowling the opposition out - but we'll never know.

There was great excitement on the bus as we turned out of the Rose Bowl last week, leaving behind a variety of HGVs carrying gear for The Who concert on Saturday. It wasn't the arrival of one of the greatest live acts ever that was the talk of the bus though (classic rock isn't on many of the guys' playlists unfortunately) more the knowledge that we were staying in the centre of Birmingham and the Hampshire Curry Club' was going to have a field day.

Since I've been involved, Shaun Udal and John Crawley have headed out for a curry on the night before the game with a few others in tow (Paul Terry and Dimi enjoy some spice too) and it's become something of a tradition. A mixed grill for Creepy, something not too spicy with chicken for Shaggy (extra chicken pieces if possible), spicy for Dimi and PT and there's not much variation from that!

This pre-game preparation' does, unfortunately, lead to a few problems in the changing room the next day.

Anyway, our meal was very pleasant, I think something was up with the lads though - Shaggy had salmon and there was no mixed grill in sight.

Back to cricket - the whole first day was washed out (as tends to happen, the umpires called it off and the sun came out) and chunks of Day 2 were also lost.

We found ourselves in trouble, a half-century from Michael Carberry took us up to 169 for 7, but our tail couldn't rescue us and we were all out for the same score. Unfortunately the sun came out to greet the Warwickshire batters and despite us having them 184 for 8, they managed to go in with a 93-run lead. We were one wicket down going into the last day (no names mentioned) and suddenly found ourselves four down and we hadn't passed the 1st innings deficit.

Thankfully, John Crawley (73) and Nic Bobotie' Pothas (126no) shared a partnership that took us to safety and despite losing a few more wickets we held out for the draw.

A poor week on a personal front ended on a high as I just managed to make it back to Southampton in time to see The Who take to the stage and also found out that my St Cross teammates got their season up and running with a win at Hursley Park.

While I was making good time down the M40, the other players were travelling across to Swansea for an important Friends Provident game.

It was good to see Michael Lumb (66) return to form, while Nic (64no) and Dimi (74) continued theirs to take us to 284 (a fair way above par apparently). Stuart Clark (4-25) and Chris Tremlett (2-29) ensured Glamorgan's top order were blown away and Shaggy (2-33) and Warnie (2-32) continued to pile on the misery as we bowled them out for 146.

This week we travel to play Sussex at Arundel, the weather forecast is good and a game against the local rivals is hopefully what we need to get ourselves back on track in the championship.

A few more first innings runs, an area where we've been a bit light recently, would be a good start and it was great to see Lumby, Carbs and Creepy spend some time in the middle at various times last week.

Hopefully Michael Brown and myself can recapture our early season form and give the team a solid start.

But before all that, we'll have to find ourselves a good curry house somewhere in Arundel.

Twenty20 game for Dimi.

All the lads will be in relaxed mode when we turn out in support of Dimi's Benefit Year to play a 20/20 game at Andover Cricket Club on Monday evening (June 11). It all kicks off at 5pm and will be great fun I'm sure. All spectators will be made very welcome.
