SIR - Regarding the story Make danger' junction safer' (Chronicle, May 31).

My husband witnessed the accident involving "a woman in her 70s" at the Andover Road/Harestock Road Junction.

We do hope that she is recovering well after such a shock.

I support the remarks made by the people in your article. I live near the junction and see cars speeding past my house towards it.

The 40mph limit on Harestock Road is not recognised by a significant number of motorists and motorcyclists.

Neither is the 50mph limit on the dual carriageway section of the Andover Road.

The Andover Road/Harestock Road/Well House Lane junction is perilous at the best of times.

It is a complex and confusing arrangement which local people tend to negotiate with extreme caution. Those who are unfamiliar with it must find it challenging, particularly at rush-hour.

The junction is not a roundabout, but I have seen motorists treat it as one. This must mean that it is unclear, as one approaches, as to what kind of junction it is.

Visibility is poor, especially when crossing from Harestock Road to Wellhouse Lane and vice-versa.

I could go on, but you get the gist, I'm sure.

During term-time the traffic is very heavy; some drivers get impatient and make driving decisions too quickly or inadvertantly force others to do so.

When Waitrose opens in Weeke the traffic is likely to increase, so the problem is not going to go away.
