ON the weekend the country remembered fallen war heroes, a Winchester society took to the streets to promote their rather fitting latest play.
In commemoration of the centenary since the outbreak of World War One the Winchester Musicals and Opera Society is staging Oh What A Lovely War from November 11.
The cast took to the High Street in full costume on Saturday and scores of people gathered to watch them perform the title number among others.
The play is built upon the songs that ordinary British soldiers sang, and offers a satirical and powerful commentary on the ironies and tragedies of war.
It was first performed in 1963, and has since had a hit West End run and been nominated for four Tony Awards.
Oh What A Lovely War is at Winchester’s Theatre Royal from November 11-15.
