ALL aboard; children from Harestock Primary School have won the Barton Farm play space design competition with their pirate themed play area.
Some 21 teams from the school battled it out to be announced victorious at a special assembly recently, where Cala Homes crowned the aptly named ‘Team Best Designers’ from the Koala Class the winners.
Their design for the play area on the proposed 2,000-home Barton Farm development included a pirate ship climbing frame, monkey bars, slides, and picnic bench areas.
The teams were set the task of deciding on a theme and name, as well as play equipment, safety features and landscaping for the site.
Rob Westwood, Cala Homes’ project director for Barton Farm said they were spoilt for choice with the quality of ideas put forward.
He said: “The great thing about this project is that it is not just a theoretical exercise. Team Best Designers will get to see their design come to life and be enjoyed by the local community for many years to come.
“Barton Farm is a significant development for Winchester and we are keen to continue to involve the local community as our plans progress.”
Jackie Sankey, headteacher, thanked the company for their £200 donation to the school’s library, £25 book voucher prize to the winners, and goodie bags for the runners up.
She said: “We were delighted to be asked by CALA to take part in the competition and the children have certainly relished the opportunity to design their own play area.”
