DETECTIVES are hunting raiders who got away with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and a quality of cash from a Romsey home.

Police say the burglars struck at the property near Mountbatten School between 5pm and 10.15pm on Wednesday of last week (October 30).

When the couple returned, they discovered the house, at The Covert, had been ransacked and jade, gold and diamond jewellery had been stolen.

A large quantity of Canadian, Hong Kong, New Zealand and US dollars and Kruggerands, along with spirits and a damaged remote control helicopter toy, were also stolen.

Police say the burglars went to great length to get in through a conservatory at the back of the property. They disabled an intruder alarm before getting in and then searched every room of the house, including the loft.

Contents of cupboards and even the fridge and freezers were left strewn across the floor.

Officers have made an appeal to anyone who is offered jade jewellery or change foreign currently to get in touch with them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact staff investigator, Joanne Moger, at Eastleigh CID, on 101, or ring Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
