MORE than £500,000 is to be spent on signage for urban areas throughout Hampshire.
Civic chiefs have rubber stamped a proposal for improved 'wayfinding', including totem maps and finger posts at stations, car parks and junctions for Eastleigh, Totton, Winchester and Romsey.
The council say the new system can be tailored to each area and that it will promote walking.
The project is part of a Hampshire County Council programme using money from the local sustainable transport fund.
Around £100,000 is earmarked for Winchester, Basingstoke and Farnborough, while £330,000 is set aside for Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Romsey and Totton.
Installation is due in January 2014.
