Alan Titchmarsh with the Pride and Prejudice Rose planted at the Jane Austen museum
GUESTS at Jane Austen’s House Museum celebrated a special anniversary when a TV celebrity arrived.
Alan Titchmarsh, best known for presenting Gardener’s World and Ground Force, planted a Pride and Prejudice Rose at Chawton, grown especially to mark the 200th anniversary of Austen’s most famous novel.
Assisted by head gardener, Celia Simpson, and rose breeder Phillip Harkness, Mr Titchmarsh presented the rose marking the occasion with a speech.
The event, which was attended by nearly 20 people, helped raise donations for the museum. The peach-coloured rose was first launched earlier this year at the Chelsea Flower Show in preparation for the anniversary.
