WITH a name like Chrismas, it seems like she has the perfect job.

For the past 20 years, aptly-named Pam Chrismas has been a volunteer co-ordinator for a stand selling charity Christmas cards.

The brightly-coloured stands in the Winchester Guildhall, with cards from more than 50 local and national charities, were this week officially opened by the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Ernie Jeffs.

Ms Chrismas said: “The charities provide the cards and 100 per cent of the money raised goes back to them because we’re totally voluntarily run.

“There are lots of card shops around the country but they take a little whack for themselves. I’m just pleased we can offer this service.”

Cllr Jeffs, accompanied by his wife, Barbara, said: “It’s that time of year again and what a wonderful effort it is. It’s marvellous. Thank you for putting all this together.

“As mayor you find out there’s not a lot of volunteering going on at times like this and there are a lot of people who need charities but I hope your Christmas stand raises an awful lot of money.”

The charity Christmas card sale has been in business for more than 30 years and is run by Ms Chrismas and Cathy Wallis and is chaired by Louise Woods. Christmas cards cost between £1.00-£4.50 and are on sale at the Guildhall’s cafe, Eighteen 71.
