THE mayor and mayoress of Winchester has shown their support for the annual Poppy Appeal.
Ernie and Barbara Jeffs, speaking on the steps of Abbey House, with their dog Charlie, said: “The Royal British Legion gives such vital support to our armed forces personnel both serving and non-serving. It’s an organisation that is always there and provides essential help to service personnel and their families in times of need.
“It is worth remembering that these brave fellows are always there to defend our shores, without them this country wouldn’t enjoy the freedom it does today. That’s why we contribute to the Poppy Appeal.
“The annual membership fee is quite modest and you don’t even have to be a member or ex-member of the services to join the Legion. Any additional help that can be given is always appreciated.”
