WINCHESTER District Citizens Advice Bureau will increase it service just in time to face some major new challenges.
Cutbacks in the group’s funding forced its closure on Friday’s at the St George’s Street office, but savings on rent costs from Winchester City Council enabled them to resume service on Fridays.
Chief executive, Jenny Meadows, said: “I am so pleased that our fantastic team of volunteer advisers have come forward to allow us to reopen this session.
“We are gearing ourselves up to support clients through the introduction of Welfare Reform which is already, before it is fully implemented, increasing the need for our service.
“Anyone who is struggling to cope is encouraged to use our service early and not leave it too late before accessing our free, non-judgemental, confidential advice.”
Clients also have daily access to the Bishop’s Waltham office, as well as Alresford GP Surgery on Monday afternoons, Denmead Community Centre on Thursday afternoons, Wickham’s Merry Go Round Children’s Centre on Thursday mornings, and the County Court bi-weekly on Tuesday mornings.
There two bureaux in the Winchester District, but they merged in February 2012 to become the Winchester District Citizens Advice Bureau.
The service is delivered by nearly 100 volunteers, including almost 60 advisors.
