ARMED with a little more than a credit card and a used tin of paint, a woman from Fulflood is embarking on a mission to open her first beauty salon.

Jasmin Vale, 25, from Milverton Road, qualified as a beauty therapist after completing an adult education course at Peter Symonds College last year and has been looking to open Jasmin Beauty ever since.

Miss Vale now operates from a small room in the back of Tom Andrew’s hair salon on Parchment Street, which she has decorated herself using paint given to her by her parent Sandra and Jeff.

She has fronted all the start up costs from money earned part time at Warehouse, where she has worked for the last four years.

“The opportunity for something like this to come up in Winchester is slim so it was really random when I found out this place was available,” she said. “I knew Tom from school and he said the room was coming up so I took it.”

Currently working Tuesdays, Saturdays and Thursday evenings, Miss Vale is also studying for a course at college in Swedish massage, hoping to offer more and more treatments as her business continues.

Miss Vale said: “There’s weeks where you don’t have anyone but it’s only been a month so I can’t panic too much. It’s been great working inside the salon because some of them are their clients will come in and say, ‘Are you free for a quick eyebrow tint’?

“I regret that I didn’t do it earlier but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. We were taught that each treatment is an experience and I like to give that proper experience rather than just have this in-out policy that some places have.”
