ART students at a college in Winchester have been selected to have their work displayed at a London exhibit.
Five students from Peter Symonds College have been nominated, in the hope their works will feature at a unique display at the London art exhibition at the Mall Gallery next March.
The selected pieces have already won their respective artists a prize when they were judged by the Winchester Decorative and Fine Arts Society (DFAS) earlier this year.
The winning piece, called Cultural Influences, saw winner Nisha Mann, a former Kings’ School student, receive £100 in prize money, while Pippa Hooker’s Scone took 2nd and Emily Stoodley, a former pupil at Swanmore College, took 3rd for her Urban Society.
Runners up included Boy by Harriet Hughes and Girl in the Woods by Ruth Watkinson.
The head of art at the college, Mark Jones, said: “Winchester DFAS committee members viewed many pieces of very high quality work from which they had the hard task of making a selection of just five pieces.”
Member of the Winchester DFAS Young Art Committee, Susan Dewey, said: “The group are thrilled to be able to sponsor and encourage these young artists and we all have great hopes that at least one of them will be selected by the London Mall Gallery to go on display next spring.”
“Last year we were delighted to discover that eighteen year old Ben Mousley’s piece (three pencil portraits) was amongst those selected by the Royal Society of British Artists for display at the Mall Gallery. We are now hoping for another successful selection.”
