PLANNERS in Winchester approved the controversial build of eight new houses, despite strong local opposition.
he proposal, at Bereweeke Avenue, comprised nine houses between Bereweeke Way and Lynford Way, and was approved unanimously by councillors.
The houses will be made up of two-, tree-, four- and five beds, some made of red brick and others clad with concrete render and slate pitched roofs.
Cllr Kim Gottleib said: “The houses themselves are well designed and we should encourage good design.”
There were 21 letters of objection, citing road safety concerns.
Tony Charles, objecting, said: “The current proposals will result in over-development of the site.
Houses will be adversely affected. We ask that you object the current scheme.”
Cllr Barry Lipscomb said: “This is a coach and horses through our policy. Surely this calls for a relook at our policy? Frankly others will look at this and say, ‘We could do that.’”
