MOST companies like to tell you they go the extra mile for customers, but a group of Hampshire bankers have put their money where their mouth is.
Yesterday (Oct 16) six colleagues from Lloyds Bank, joined by two 'guest riders', began a 24-hour static bike ride to raise cash for the Alzheimer's Society.
All day customers at the Lloyds on Winchester High Street were confronted by the unusual site of a sweating bank manager pedalling away for charity.
“We have had a superb response from customers and we’ve smashed the initial fundraising target of £1,200 - we’ve revised it to £2,500,” said guest rider and senior manager, Nigel Owen.
Mr Owen, Paul Radley, Ashley James, Caroline Hanks-Farmer, Victoria Lang, Clive Blake, guest rider Sue Le Riche, and Richard Lewis, are part of Lloyds nationwide campaign to cycle round the world and raise £8m in the process.
But the group, who are based at a variety of locations around Southampton and Hampshire, admit they’re not natural-born cyclists.
“The only exercise I have done lately is going to Greggs and back!,” Mr Lewis said.
