IT was a day they will always remember.
Hundreds of Winchester University students celebrated yesterday (Oct 15) as they graduated in fine sunshine.
Mortar boards flew outside Winchester Cathedral, where the ceremony took place, as students reflected on happy memories and looked forward to the future.
Jordan Langdon, a 21-year-old events management graduate, said: “I’m really, really proud and I have made my parents proud. If I could go back I would do it all again. I would probably do more work but I have enjoyed my three years here, it’s been amazing.”
Adelle Kneess (corr), 22, who earned a degree in events management and media production, added: “It’s been a great experience and I have met a lot of people. My course was really interesting and it’s been good fun getting to this stage.”
Meanwhile university staff also joined the celebrations with the annual procession through the High Street, accompanied by drummers.
There is only one procession each year and this year’s included some of Winchester’s great and good, including Mayor Ernie Jeffs and the Very Rev James Atwell, Dean of the cathedral.
Ceremonies continue until Friday with some notable honorary graduates including actress Miriam Margoyles, who has appeared in Harry Potter and Blackadder, Calendar Girls and St Trinian’s star Celia Imrie and author Patrick Gale, who has written 14 novels.
