WINCHESTER school children welcomed special guests to the opening of their new classroom on Monday morning (October 14).
Pupils and staff at Twyford St Mary’s Church of England Primary School welcomed local MP Steve Brine, who officially opened the new room, and Reverend Jonah Watts who gave it a special blessing.
Mr Brine said: “The last time I saw this new classroom it was several hundred feet above the school being winched in by an enormous crane. Now it looks as if it was always part of the school.
“It was such a pleasure to come back, officially open the new building and meet so many of the staff and children who are rightly very excited at the new addition to this very old school."
Louise Chapman, headteacher at Twyford St Mary’s, said the new classroom was vital given the increased demand for spaces for children aged four-five.
Mrs Chapman said: "I am very pleased that HCC recognised the need for additional space at Twyford St. Mary's to meet the catchment needs of families and children from within the village. The new classroom and the enhanced outdoor area look great and are being enjoyed by all the children."
