A WINCHESTER historian will appear in a documentary on national television tonight to discuss King Alfred.
Dr Ryan Lavelle is interviewed in the three-part series, King Alfred and the Anglo-Saxons, which explores Alfred the Great’s family.
Dr Lavelle, an award-winning author and senior lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Winchester, was asked to contribute to the series because of his research into Anglo-Saxon and early medieval, military and political history.
He said: “The reputation of Alfred the Great is well known in Winchester, but it was great to have the opportunity to talk about the legacy of Alfred and his family in the history of England in later years.”
The first episode is at 9pm tonight on BBC4.
