A WINCHESTER summer fete combined two essential summer ingredients last weekend - glorious weather and a green garden.
Flowerdown Care Home celebrated the opening of its new look garden with its annual summer fete on Saturday (aug 3).
Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester, Ernie and Barbara Jeffs, attended with the former officially opening the home's new flowerbeds.
Cllr Jeffs said: “I came here last year to open the pond and it's quite dramatic what they have done here to put this garden together and it looks stunning. I'm sure the residents here must treasure it.”
Friends of Flowerdown, a charity set up to support the home, has been working to transform the garden for months.
Chairman Colin Kimber said he was delighted residents could enjoy the area.
He said: “The project isn't over and we want to build a new gazebo-type structure we can take residents into and a new path around the garden. We haven't got a target as such but money raise today will go to help that.”
Manager Sharon Tucker added: “This is not an institution, it's a home and events like this are very popular with the residents. It allows us to bring the community and families in and bring normal life to the residents.
Food, prizes and games were provided by Sainsbury's in Middle Brook Street, which have chosen Friends of Flowerdown as its annual charity partner.
