WINCHESTER Operatic Society is remembering heroes who fought for our freedom next year.
It will mark the 100th anniversary of World War One with a production of Oh! What a Lovely War, in November 2014.
Opening night will coincide with Armistice Day, and director Suzanne Hall said she wanted to educate people about the war as well as put on a good show.
She said: “The style of the play is rooted in the tradition of British Music Hall and parts are like a variety show.
“But the purpose of the play is to educate and to emotionally engage the audience with the history surrounding World War One.
“Around 50,000 people went through Winchester at the Morn Hill camp and some 25,000 never came back.
“We are honouring a promise not to forget them.”
Casting does not begin until June next year.
