WINCHESTER is to host the final round of the Hampshire Motocross Championship this Sunday (July 28).

It will be held at Matterley Basin in support of Hampshire-based charity, Leukaemia Busters.

Teams will gather to welcome spectators on the Saturday for an evening of entertainment, with the first race kicking off at 10.15am the following morning.

A charity auction will be held held at lunchtime, and continues later from 2.15pm onwards before awards are presented in the evening.

Up for grabs is the Presentation of the Race Day Award at 6pm followed by the Presentation of Championship Awards at 6.30pm.

The event, being run by Jamie and Michelle Sanderson, aims to raise as much as possible for the research charity, which helps develop new and improved antibody-based therapies for patients with currently incurable forms of leukaemia.

So far they have raised over £250,000 with their annual motocross championships as well as other events such as skydiving.

The charity’s primary lab, called The Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Laboratory, is named after ten-year-old Simon Flavell who died in 1990 from the disease. The lab, based at Southampton General Hospital, is directed by Simon’s parents Doctors David and Bee.

In July 2010, Hampshire Motocross staged racing at Fobdown Farm, near Old Alresford and raised £11,000 for Leukaemia Busters.
