ONE WOMAN is still fighting for her life following a minibus crash on the M3 yesterday morning.

The 63-year-old woman remains in intensive care after a single-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6 at Old Basing.

A 66-year-old man was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital but his injuries are no longer considered to be serious.

Police also confirmed that a 22-year-old man, being treated at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital with what were thought to be life-threatening injuries, is no longer considered to be in a serious condition.

Two uninjured children were taken to hospital in Basingstoke as a precaution – a two-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.

Five other people were taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital with minor injuries. They were two males and three women. At this time it remains unclear how old they were.

The group were Romanian nationals on holiday, travelling from London to Bournemouth when the driver of the minibus lost control following a suspected blown tyre.

The vehicle, which had been travelling in the fast lane, slewed across the carriageway and left the road where it overturned, throwing at least two passengers from the vehicle.

The northbound carriageway was initially closed to allow Helimed access to the scene. However air ambulances landed in a nearby field where the three seriously injured were flown to Southampton General Hospital.

The northbound carriageway was swiftly reopened, and the southbound carriageway at junction 5 to 6 remained closed until 2.40pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision to contact Whitchurch Roads policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Woodruff.
