HAMPSHIRE'S most well-known novelist Jane Austen is to adorn the £10 note.
The quintessential English writer was favoured as the new face for currency, replacing former prison reformer Elizabeth Fry, which is expected to be rolled out in 2017.
Born at Steventon rectory, near Basingstoke, and buried at Winchester Cathedral, Austen has been described as one of the founding mothers of English literature depicting domestic life among the middle-classes.
