WINCHESTER Guildhall staff have apologised after a dispute over the condition of its floor.
James Wilks and wife Rachel have been attending Dance Yourself Dizzy events at Winchester Guildhall for 10 years but were upset last Tuesday (July 16) when they were unable to dance properly due to a “sticky” floor in the Bapsy Hall.
Mr Wilks said: “Women wear special shoes so they can spin on it but it was horrible. We heard there had been some sort of food fight there the night before and the man who runs it had been promised it would be clean but it wasn’t.
“It usually goes on until around 11pm but we gave up early and left because it was not enjoyable.”
Mr Wilks, of West Tisted, near Petersfield, added there had been similar problems at the hall before.
He added: “One guy even said he was going to do a petition about it.”
Danny Foyle, who runs Dance Yourself Dizzy, said there were some issues with the floor but it did not stop activities.
He said: “The issue was raised with the Guildhall team who have apologised and confirmed they will make sure the room is cleaned to the standard we and they would expect in the future. We have used the Guildhall for many years without problems and look forward to continuing to do so.”
A council spokesman confirmed the apology after a “small number” of complaints had been received.
He added: “The room was not cleaned sufficiently well following a previous event. The Guildhall has reviewed its cleaning regime to prevent this happening again. The venue stages hundreds of events every year with many satisfied clients and customers.”
