HAMPSHIRE children proved themselves as good as the adults at a village flower show last weekend.
Organisers of the Itchen Valley Flower Show praised boys and girls for their entries in a number of categories from photography to flower arranging.
It took place at Itchen Abbas & Avington Village Hall on Saturday (July 13), with hundreds of residents attending.
Sara Mason, organiser, said: “We’ve had nearly 30 children entering this year in six classes and we are really happy because it means they can show off their skills.
“What we are finding is that the older children above 12 are entering the cookery competitions and the flower arranging. It’s both boys and girls which you might not always expect but it’s pleasing to see and it adds to the flavour of the show.”
Among the stand-out exhibits were an Andy-Murray inspired flower arrangement featuring a tennis ball and Murray Mints and an arrangement inside a cricket helmet.
The festival recently received a £1,000 grant from the city council as part of the Have Your Say campaign and Mrs Mason said they would be looking at the best ways to spend it to develop the show in the future.
