THE building if a new council depot in Winchester has been completed.
Keith Wood, council leader, visited the site today (JULY 16) to see the £2m project which was managed on the Council’s behalf by Gentle Consulting.
The new depot in Barfield Close replaces the old premises on Bar End Road and will be the operating base for Biffa and the Landscape Group.
In spite of some difficult weather conditions during the construction period the new depot has been completed on time and on budget.
Cllr Wood said: “The new depot provides a much-improved base for the teams who deliver some of the Council’s most important services.
“By investing in this project we are able to ensure a continuing quality and consistency of service for local people and support economic activity and employment for local businesses involved in the work.
The project has revitalised a run-down industrial site and, in turn, releases the old depot for an alternative use, enabling an important gateway to the city to be improved in the future.
