WINCHESTER’S City Museum is holding a medieval day this Saturday.
Katie Hinds, Hampshire finds liaison officer for the portable antiquities scheme, will be helping the public identify artefacts found from their back gardens.
Visitors of the ‘Magnificent Middle Ages’ will be able to enjoy all sorts of free family activities including meeting a medieval man-at-arms, making cut-out medieval characters to take away and handling real artefacts from the time.
Cllr Rob Humby, deputy leader and portfolio holder for economic development at Winchester City Council, said: “Winchester’s medieval heritage is all around us, attracting large numbers of visitors to the city, and the museum’s medieval day will help to bring alive this period of history for local people and tourists alike.”
This event is timed to celebrate the national Festival of Archaeology.
Doors are open between 11am-4.30pm, City Museum in The Square, Winchester.
