FANS of Jane Austen will be heading for a mansion near Alresford to celebrate the life of the 19th century novelist.
To mark the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice, Old Alresford Place is holding a ‘Jane Austen House Party’ from July 19-21 for devotees of all things Austen.
Guests can enjoy talks on Regency fashion, film showings, games, a guided visit to Chawton, her birthplace, and Winchester Cathedral and a summer Pride and Prejudice ball on the Saturday night, with dances from film and TV adaptations.
James Arnott, event organiser, said: “It looks like being a fun weekend, where guests can truly immerse themselves in the Regency period.
“All guests are being asked to wear appropriate clothing and observe the manners of the time. There are very few period venues in Hampshire where it is possible to hire the entire site and stay at the premises too.”
There are just a few places left for residential accommodation, but tickets are still available for the summer ball, which includes a Regency dance class and buffet supper.
