A TEENAGE boy was impaled on railings in Winchester last night.
The 13-year-old was trapped on the cast-iron railing for more than 30 minutes before he was released by firefighters.
Firefighters had to cut away three railings before the boy could be taken to hospital still skewered onto the metal spike.
Watch Manager Paul Rance, of Winchester Fire Station, said today: “It had punctured him and gone up his back to his shoulder blade.
“Members of the public supported him and got him comfortable we set wooden blocks under his feet.
“We gave him oxygen therapy and then the ambulance arrived and gave him pain relief. He was conscious and breathing and a very brave lad. Hopefully the spike hasn’t hit anything major.”
An air ambulance also landed with a doctor but the boy was taken by road to hospital for emergency surgery.
The incident happened in Hatherley Road, Fulflood, at 6.25pm when the boy, who has not been named, slipped as he was climbing over the fence by the Peter Symonds College playing fields.
