A MAN has been arrested after police and firefighters were alerted to a gas-filled house in Winchester.
The 21-year-old, from Winchester, is being questioned by police on suspicion of making threats to commit criminal damage.
Police and firefighters attended West End Close, Fullflood, at 2.30am today (Monday, July 8), following reports of a smell of gas.
The occupants of two neighbouring properties were put on standby to be evacuated as a precaution.
One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was in the early hours so it was all a bit of a blur. The police told us to get ready to evacuate but it never happened.
“They’re students who live there – there are about seven of them normally, but we’re kind of in between students at the moment.”
No one was injured as a result of the incident and no damage was caused.
